Firefighter Kevin Taylor of the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service received the “Queen’s Fire Service Medal” having raised money for various charities over a many number of years. Kevin said: “I get so much support from my fellow firefighters. This award is a reflection of the work they do and that of the service as a whole.” Retired firefighter Richard Stanton received The George Medal for Bravery for his part in helping to free the children trapped in the flooded cave in Thailand last year. Other recipients include Gruffalo writer Julia Donaldson (CBE), Pink Floyd drummer Nicholas Mason (CBE) and Dr Janine Barnes (MBE) whose work centres on neurological pharmacy. Magician David Berglas, known as the International Man of Mystery, has been awarded an MBE for contribution to magic, at the age of 92. David Dein and John Lowe both received MBEs today. David, former vice-chairman of Arsenal Football Club and the FA received his for services to Football and volunteer work in schools and prison.
