Yesterday was the five year anniversary of this camp opening its doors. It is home to 35,000 people since then. I think it’s important to hear stories that are not in our own backyard. Meet Aysha and Suad. Aysha: This is the story of Aysha, a #Syrian woman who arrived at the camp on the night of May 2nd 2014. Her youngest son was born only four months after their arrival. “I want to live with dignity. I have a responsibility towards my children & I want them to have the best in life”, says Aysha from #Syria, who was among the first to arrive in #Azraq camp, 5 years ago. Aysha arrived on May 2014 & hasn’t left the camp ever since. “My youngest son knows nothing outside of this camp. The #Azraq refugee camp opened its doors for the first time 5 years ago, in 2014. Today, it is home to more than 35,000 refugees. 60% are children. Many of those were born in the camp, like Aysha’s son. Suad: Care Volunteer and Employee “I took a personal vow to help as many people as possible to the best of my ability”, says Suad who started volunteering at #Azraq camp with @CAREJor in February 2015. “My time working at the camp has taught me to count my blessings & be patient. Patience is truly a virtue, & I’ve learned that from the people I try to help every day” says Suad. “I have been wishing for peace in #Syria since 2011.
