While doing research for our upcoming exhibition in Düsseldorf, it was emotional to look back at images of Karen Alexander, a wonderful human being, a beautiful soul and woman, today as much as in the late eighties. These photographs are part of my first ever story for American Vogue, done in 1988. Alexander Liberman, the magazine’s editorial director at the time, had asked me to showcase my vision of women for the next decade. The ‘White Shirts’ story features Estelle Lefébure, Karen Alexander, Rachel Williams, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz & Christy Turlington, photographed on the beach of Malibu.
