Happy birthday to American icon #JasperJohns. Born #onthisday in 1930, Johns is celebrated for his appropriation of commonplace images and symbols. Following a 1957 visit to the @フィラデルフィア美術館’s collection of work by #MarcelDuchamp, Johns made his first sculptures inspired by everyday, ready-made objects, including “Light Bulb II,” currently on view. In 2020, the museum will co-organize a major retrospective of the artist’s work with @whitneymuseum.
