The picture above is from this project. It’s a portrait of Alexander and Stanislav, two sea hunters in the Russian Arctic region of Chukotka. In this scene, the men work to craft new harpoon points for use during sea hunting endeavors. Coastal Chukchi communities are largely dependent on their ability to hunt marine mammals in order to survive in remote and unforgiving lands. The formation of sea ice along the coastline is unreliable. The ecological balance is shifting. #environment #environmental #change #Chukotka #Russia
