Love Letters to Europe. WOLFGANG TILLMANS. It’s time to unite. As the German-born, British resident @wolfgang_tillmans sees it, Europe has sleepwalked its way into a dangerous dialectic between so-called populism and so-called federalism, both of which fail to highlight the advantages we share as citizens of a bloc far greater than our respective nations. Having witnessed first-hand the tortured chaos of Britain’s Brexit referendum and the long and convoluted lack of progress that ensued, Tillmans has decided to ally with a broad group of fellow Europhile travellers under the auspices of the Building Bridges foundation to create a campaign called @votetogether.eu #VoteTogether. Opening both on the ground around the continent and from the URL votetogether.eu, its aim is to turn the upcoming European elections in May into a vote for European unity in the face of nationalism and division. Here Tillmans tells us how a greater Europe has helped shape his creative identity and why he is convinced the time has come to spring to its defence.
