As we approach the end of #mentalhealthawareness month I’m compelled to bring something to light. It’s the hard truth of the state of our country and world. I walked by this scene just yesterday. Look very closely at these 2 pictures. What do you see?... There was a call from a neighborhood clinic to our incredibly necessary and brave #firstresponders - and to be very clear this is not an attack on them! They rushed inside to help someone. But do you see what they had to walk around? A man, on the ground, covered in a blanket, to hide from the harsh elements of living on the streets. This is the state of our medical system. This is the state of our mental health care system. Our medical staff has to follow protocol. Can you imagine what it’s like for them? So what are WE, our community, our society, doing for this poor man? This is someone’s son. Maybe someone’s father. Or brother. This is us. So do me a favor today. Do something nice for a stranger you would normally have ignored. Help someone across the street. Or onto a bus. Thank a first-responder. A police officer. A paramedic. A firemen. An ER nurse. And instead of selfishly buying yourself that Starbucks, buy a sandwich for that fellow human out on the corner. And if you dare to do something even bigger, figure out how to help change your legislation so we can start getting #mentalhealthcare FOR ALL 💚 ...thanks for listening to my rant ...and I dare you to ”like” this post as much as some sexy photo shoot ✌🏼

stevie_marie84 @madchenamick I agree something does need to be done about the homeless situation across the United States. Giving people tents to live on the streets is creating a huge problem. It’s not just the mental health aspect, but there are high amounts of individuals on drugs. There are syringes in the streets for god sake‘s, yes something does need to be done! And starts with individual state government. Parts of California and Washington state have a huge problem on their hands right now. They need to stop enabling and start helping people. It’s really disheartening to watch the quality of life of these people go down the drain one day at a time. It’s not fair to the people living in that situation whether it be the homeless or the citizens living in those neighborhoods. Very sad situation.

jlorenzophotographer I can relate to what you've posted and stated. However, it appears the laws has made it impossible to help these mentally ill people. I found out not long ago my son is living on the street as he has had some mental breakdown and have decided to take to the street, he does not want to live at his mom's place (I'm in Australia) we have tried to get him help and we're told he has to want the help, meaning he has to walk in and ask for help. A mentally ill person does not know they need help, in their mind they are fine it's us outsiders that have it wrong. So how can you intervene in an issue that could see you either sued or in jail for committing a family member? The laws seems to have been made to keep these mentally ill people on the streets. I'm still looking for an answer.

faliceplease As someone with a mentally ill family member who is homeless and 99% of the time we have no idea how to reach, it means a lot to me that there are people in the world like you who have empathy instead of just looking down upon people for their undesirable conditions.
