Thierry Diagana has been head of the Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases (NITD) since 2012. After his studies in developmental molecular biology at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, he received his Ph.D. from the Paris Descartes University. Before joining the NITD in 2007 to lead the institute’s malaria program, Thierry was conducting research at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California, California-based Exelixis and the Institute for OneWorld Health.

Under his leadership, the NITD, while focusing on malaria, has also broadened its research into parasitic diseases such as sleeping sickness, leishmaniasis and cryptosporidiosis.
