I started shooting and posting to Instagram within a few months of each other, with photography preceding Instagram. @riquemb eventually convinced me to get an account, even though I was against the idea. We began meeting up with a ton of people in LA, from @asteryx to @debodoes. @petehalverson, @trueinfocus, @chris.rivera, @cole_younger_, @_edwincontreras, @mr.franklopez...the list is endless. You know who you all are.
From there we started road tripping. I met some of my closest friends. @jordanherschel, @stevint, @erubes1 and @peteracarey. From there we started flying to places. More friends. @thecraighensel is like a brother to me. All the Chicago crew. You know who you all are. I love you all. @littlecoal, @osaw, @Cole Rise. The Tahoe crew. I miss you, Marley. Salt Lake City. New York. San Francisco has too many close friends to list them all. I have so much love for Canada and all the people there I’ve come to know. Texas. The east coast. Europe. Africa. Mexico. Australia. South America. Asia. I met all these people from all these places before a single one of us got an “influencer job” or quit the day job to be an “influencer.” Now I can’t stand the word influencer. I never could. It fosters unhealthy competition. It’s no longer about community. It’s no longer about friendships. It’s all superficial and about mutually benefitting each other, otherwise you’re useless. I met great friends who got swept up in influencer life and they’re not anything like who or what they used to be.
The influencer life is so glamorous to those who aren’t in it. That’s an influencers job. I’ve spent days on end shooting staged meals in beautiful resorts, and was told there’s no time to catch a sunset on the beach. We need the good light for this salad. It’s not glamorous. I hate salad.
Being an influencer is not something I aspired to be and I’m so grateful I don’t do it anymore.
You don’t need to be an influencer or an IG model or a content creator to get the most out of what this app has to offer. You just need a camera phone and the ability to reach out. It’s way more fun that way. I promise.

yffylf Influencers create content. "Content" is such a poor word. It says, "commodity". This ghastly notion doesn't care for your thoughts, doubts and regrets, or that pang of the pain of recognition or a burst of joy for that new image. It means you are a good value for getting those eyeballs. Fuck them, you always seemed genuine to me. Please stay that way.

madwanders Word. I had to stop following a lot of the “super” Instagrammers when they went down the influencer road. I don’t want to begrudge a person for who they choose to pay their bills... but so many accounts became boring and insincere. I’m all for great landscape shots and sarcasm, and will take that any day over hashtags about authentic living.

andrewlawrenceimages Extremely well said dude and so true. Interesting how times and people have changed with this app without a doubt. Always appreciated your wit, humour and how genuine you are. Hopefully meet up next time you're up in Vancouver!

alexspaeth I think we’re reached a point of over-influenced billboard feeds, which has ushered in stronger desires for true authenticity and honesty — back to the uncurated roots of this app — and I’m happy to see that change.

lalydeer I started IG just to watch the beautiful photography of stunning landscapes people took. I found you when I first started. Thanks for some amazing shots so that I can live vicariously through you.

adrianolivas__ Man...you and all the dudes you mentioned were hella cool. Still are. I remember all the jokes about Crested Butte. IG isn't at all what it used to be. You guys were Instagram. 💯👊
