Today is Richard’s Adopt-A-Versary!!!!! 7 years ago today, this photo was taken. 2012. I adopted him from the Downey public shelter at an adoption fair in Irvine thanks to a flier at Starbucks (“I’ll just look around” I thought). Richard was almost 2 years old and his previous owners had surrendered him along with a female cat, who had already been adopted by the time I arrived. He was all curled up in his cage alone when I walked by. He slowly looked up and his eyes stunned me, I’d never met an odd-eyed cat before. They let me hold him, and he was so scared from all the barking and fair noise that he burrowed his head into my arms for safety. I asked the volunteer if I could come back the next week, since I needed time to consider whether I really wanted to adopt a cat. “The animals don’t last that long here if we don’t find homes for them...” she warned me. Well, at that point, I couldn’t let him go! I paid a $10 adoption fee and here we are, 7 years later. ❤️
