I’ve rarely met anyone as wild, talented, and fun to be with as Dr. John. I can’t help but feel spoiled to have shared the experience of recording with him on “Nice Girls Don’t Stay for Breakfast.” This honorable son of New Orleans was one of the few people who could hold their own on screen with Robert Mitchum. I will miss the music he shared with all of us. These photographs were taken in his home town for W Magazine in 2008—pictured here with the great musicians Lionel Batiste, @ruffinsbbq and @misskarenelson.
