Today is the Birthday of one of the King of blues slide guitarists Mr. DEREK TRUCKS born 8 June 1979 is an American guitarist, songwriter and founder of the Grammy Awards winning The Derek Trucks Band. He played with The Allman Brothers band, and became an official member in 1999. In 2010 he formed with his wife Susan Tedeschi The Tedeschi Trucks Band. Trucks began playing the guitar using a "Slide" techniques because it allowed him to play the guitar despite his small, young hands. When he was 13 he had played alongside Buddy Guy and gone on tour with Thunderhawk. He also had played with Bob Dylan, Joe Walsh, Eric Clapton, and Warren Haynes. His music is said to encompass categories such as jam band, Southern rock, and jazz while simultaneously being rooted in the blues and rock genres. Trucks plays an eclectic blend of blues, soul, jazz, rock, qawwali music (a genre of music from Pakistan and India), and other kinds of music. Trucks became a fan of Hindustani classical musician Ali Akbar Khan, known for his virtuosity in playing the sarod and popularising Indian classical music, often in conjunction with sitar maestro Ravi Shankar. Trucks often plays the guitar in an open E tuning, using a Dunlop Blues Bottle slide. And our legendary guitar solo of the day is the solo performed in "MIDNIGHT IN HARLEM" by the legend himself. This song is by Tedeschi Trucks Band written by Mike Mattison (who was previously lead vocalist of the Derek Trucks Band) and appears on the album Revelator (2011). The album won Grammy Award for Best Blues Album at the 54th Grammy Awards. The most fascinating part of this solo to me is how the intensity of Trucks' playing grows so easily without a forced build up by the rest of the band.
Happy Birthday #derektrucks iiii]; )'
