Now sadly key sponsors have withdrawn their support making it impossible to continue. I think it’s a sad and sobering omen that nowadays, because of great but selective medical advances, for many people (mostly affluent and white) HIV/AIDS isn’t such a problem or deemed as important an issue as it once was. Consequently sponsors don’t see an event like this as an attractive or lucrative way to spend their money. Of course HIV/AIDS still rages in many parts of the world we affluent white people rarely see, and so an event like the Life Ball ending is even more damaging to those countries. Basically what I’m saying is, yet again, poor people, and poor people of colour, are being marginalized and discarded. So, here’s what I think we should do: find out companies’ and corporations’ philanthropic policies and shop accordingly. We need to tell businesses that we want compassion as well as service reflected in our spending. On the red carpet I’m wearing @paisleyandgray and onstage I’m wearing @scooterlaforge.
