As well, a Mother’s earnings go down by 3-5% with every child she has. Trans & gender nonconforming parents experience poverty at 4X the rate of the general population. Black & Latinx mother’s are more likely to be in poverty while raising children than white counterparts. As we roll onto the last stretch of school, which I always find overwhelming and stressful, and I head into another long stretch of solo parenting, I’m thinking about how culturally we devalue “feminized” work such as caregiving. I have a lot of privilege and an amazing caregiver and I still find this all very challenging. I’m thinking about the abortion bans and how true the sentiment from this quote is, what sort of trouble would we make if norms around parenting were not gendered? It explains some of the great lengths the right is taking to maintain oppressive gender roles, to keep poor people poor, to maintain the status quo. These issues are all connected. Even within feminism, when we place a higher value on work, bravery, courage, and the glass ceiling, we fail to uplift the critical work of care, family and community, which, at the end of the day, is the work that matters most.」6月11日 4時06分 - yosoycordova
