And then, when apartheid did end, was appointed to oversee the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. . His amazing sense of humour, and his willingness to speak out and organise in the face of injustice provides an example of who we can be when we embrace difference and work to build a more just society. . His reminder that “my humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together” seems especially apt for our current time and the challenges we face. . I was fortunate enough to meet him after a Brumbies game in Cape Town in 2015.
