This print is one of a series of works by Richard Hamilton inspired by James Joyce's novel 'Ulysses'. Relating to the 'Sirens' episode in the novel, here we see two barmaids working at the Ormond Hotel in Dublin. Hamilton's illustrations are faithful to Joyce's text, in this case capturing the colours and eroticism of this passage.
Today marks #Bloomsday, the annual celebration of James Joyce's work. Taking its name from the novel's protagonist Leopold Bloom, Bloomsday marks the day 'Ulysses' is set: 16 June 1904. 📚
