So I was on the hunt for an old picture the other day & in the process of looking for it I realized I have about 5 years of training footage just sitting on my phone. Good, bad, PRs, breaking myself and.... other things... so I wanted to start sharing them every now and then and really picking them apart so you guys can kind of get a feel for what I see and feel in a lift CURRENTLY. And knowing what my lifts look like now, you can really compare and see the differences. If you hate it and it’s not helpful, LEMME KNOW. So this is mid 2016, one of the last heavier days before Olympic Trials. 127kg/279lbs clean and jerk. Things that stick out the most to me:
1) the “yank” off the floor. CHILLLLLL and be set before you pull. Ya king makes it feel like you’ll move faster, but in reality there will just be some lag time between your yank and your body actually moving the bar. Set, squeeze, push THROUGH the floor.

2) the lack of “scoop” into the hips. There’s not much sweeping back happening, more so up and hips to the bar instead. This leads to...

3) not as much elevation of the bar. Maybe only a couple inches, but a couple inches at max effort is the difference between making or missing a lift. This is more of a “bang & dive”, rather than the “scoop, jump, extend/finish tall” that I prefer. -
4) CATCH POSITION/pull under. I hate it. Timing wasn’t fantastic & its A lil tighter, a lil softer & this was just after my “everything on your toes/quads” days, so catching flat footed was still something I was trying to fix. and obviously leg strength was not what it is now.

5) I honestly don’t hate the jerk, as I remember they were kind of rockin during this cycle. Just a little chest diving & not as 50/50 front to back as I’d like (I’m not measuring degrees and angles of a split jerk bc WHO TF can do that real time NO ONE). If you watch my left foot, it does a little spin on the dip, meaning I wasn’t maintaining full foot pressure. Back then I remember all I though about was “heels”, now it’s always “whole foot”.
