In 2017, after the U.S. and Uganda concluded counter-LRA (Lord's Resistance Army) efforts and began withdrawing special-forces soldiers from the region, Obo and other southeastern CAR communities were left largely unprotected. Since then, armed groups have carried out attacks on these communities, often targeting people based on their religious, ethnic, or livelihood identity.
