Moon samples are giving us insight into the Sun’s history 🌖☀️
-
The Sun’s activity four billion years ago shaped where we do and don’t find life in the solar system today. On Earth, it sparked chemical reactions that kept our planet warm and wet — but it may have stripped away Mars’ atmosphere and zapped nourishing chemicals on Venus.
-
Scientists measured the amounts of certain chemicals in Apollo-era lunar samples to work backwards and figure out how fast the Sun rotated billions of years ago — a key piece of the puzzle that will help scientists understand just how destructive the Sun’s early outbursts were.
