This comment, from a person who lives in West Michigan, shows us how we MUST keep educating the public about the facts about declawing and about the easy, humane alternatives.
Most declawing vets are deceiving their clients and the public about this inhumane amputation procedure.

A declawing vet in West Michigan, Dr Marie Breuker, from Fremont Animal Hospital in Fremont, Michigan told us in an email, "Here at Fremont Animal Hospital we declaw cats using a laser as an elective surgery. We declaw cats and kittens for (a local rescue) also. You will not change our minds on offering the surgery as a clinic, and unlikely to change (the local rescue's) position on declaws. Many Americans are lazy and many prefer declawed cats even with the knowledge of the negative repercussions. However, you have brought up many good points of things that I know to be true about the potential side effects of declawing cats. After you email we are going to be more proactive about educating clients of those negative side effects. We can always learn and improve. Thank you for your concerns." .
We don't think most American cat owners are lazy and don't care about the health and well-being of their beloved cats like Dr Breuker does.
We believe that if veterinarians educate cat owners about how declawing is inhumane, mutilating, and unnecessary, then they won't want to have their beloved cat's toe bones and claws barbarically amputated and they will use the easy, humane alternatives.

akaneaguz They don't want damaged property? Well then don't have a cat...it is like having babies but not want to clean their toys on the floor..so we cut a part of their bodies...sounds awful? Well the same for the poor kitty...they have claws because they need them...don't you hurt the little ones ... better don't have one... ?

one1000and1cats It's so strange, how on earth people even came up with such a thing... here in Australia no one does it and i hope never will. People obviously do a research about declawing before they decide for it, they must know it's cruel. In our home we have nothing destroyed by our cats and we live in a perfect harmony!

youfilthynwah This is pure ignorance these people need to be educated what a horrible abuse it is. I try to explain to people imagine being knocked out and waking up in a strange room with half your fingers missing. Than I ask how they would like that and how they would feel for the rest of their life.
