I was late to pick her up from the first day of her ballet summer intensive, so I called my mom to go in my stead. Evvie was an emotional wreck and wouldn’t return to class the rest of the week.
Of course, then so was I. In fact, I was devastated. Ballet is calm, strong and disciplined, and her little anxious mind will benefit from such practice. I was so afraid I blew it.
We tried again today. Afterwards, she showed me what she learned and declared that she’d like to go back tomorrow.😅🙏🏼 It’s a delicate dance, the line of trust with this one. I’ll be en pointe for the rest of my days, to be sure.

This is a first. I traditionally never comment on influencer posts (people I don’t know outside of following their lives on Instagram)... but I wanted to say thank you for sharing this. As a working mom I have constant fear and anxiety that my life away from my child will effect him and his happiness. The reality is that it will likely happen but it’s normal and it happens to other people. But kids are forgiving and we can move past it. Thank you for demonstrating grace and showing a true side of humanity... that no-one is perfect, no matter how hard we try. But we can all move on and move past it together.

You‘ve got my heart. I have a wonderful, super sensitive and sometimes anxious little guy. It depends. Even if it‘s exhausting sometimes my biggest aim is to keep him encouraged and always feel loced and supported especially but not only in moments like yours. One said: you get the kid you can handle the best.

I did ballet from age 5 to age 13. It is one of the things that made the biggest impact on me as a child. I still think of it often (at 38) as a game-changer. The grace, discipline, appreciation for beauty & respect it taught me will stay with me always. I hope it does the same for your precious girl. ?

I was that kid. Don’t worry, all the things that seem to stand in the way for some anxious kids turn out to be the things that help them succeed as a adults. My biggest lesson as someone who’s been there: minimizing is the enemy of growth. You’ve got this mama.

Thank you for sharing this, you do an amazing job with all of your children. And it’s lovely that you recognize what they need. So glad she’s going back to ballet! ?(did you cut your hair? Either way I love it.)

I love how you described ballet. I wish I listened to my mom when I was little and took classes. I used to think it'll break my bones. Now in my late 20s I'm looking for adult beginner courses.
