This nurse who cared for AIDS patients during the 1980s epidemic explains why the fight against the disease is just as important today.

I remember in 1996 I worked for a health agency as a health coordinator . One of my patients had AIDS. I went to visit him with the nurse. He was in his final stages and I gave him my human touch. He cried bc his own family were afraid to be near him. He was in his 20's just like me. It broke my heart but I am grateful that I was able to be compassionate. I never forget him after all these years. Human touch goes a long way.

I worked in a small hospital in Detroit in the 80s. The epidemic was just beginning and we had AIDS patients in isolation rooms. No one would go in voluntarily. Virtually every shift I worked I volunteered to go in and take care of their needs. I too believed that human touch was the most important factor in their recovery. I'll never forget the gratitude I saw in their eyes.

God Bless!! Its so sad that so many people have such a fear of contracting AIDS/HIV just by human touch. There are so many benefits to come from just a slight human touch. I pray for all and wish everyone would just learn to love each other

I lived in SF during this tragic time. I saw many of my friends dying and what made me angry were the Republicans ignoring this epidemic.

As an ER nurse I see first hand how human touch is sooooo beneficial. What a amazing story! A true inspiration!
