As we approach this weekend’s Pride march that coincides with the 50th anniversary of the uprising at the Stonewall Inn, I have put a link in my bio to a beautiful piece in the N.Y. Times by Andrew Solomon about the first Pride March that does a fantastic job of reminding me of just how brave those men and women at that time were and how the tenor and tone of the parade weren’t exactly the same as they are today.
I pulled a couple of my favorite quotes here, in the hopes you might read Solomon’s piece in its entirety. (photos by the late photographer, Michael Evans) * “Pride was not always so unabashedly celebratory; for a long time, it was a radical assault on mainstream values, a means to defy the belief that homosexuality was a sin, an illness and a crime, that gay people were subhuman.” * “The people gathered in these photos reflect a time when it took tremendous courage to march. They were breaking the only tested model then available for queers (the word was still an insult at that time), which was secrecy.” * The newfound pride — often a brittle veneer over profound self-doubt — was not welcomed by many of those who encountered it. A new movement for civil rights is seldom greeted with rapture, and the mainstream fought back hard. A few months after Stonewall, Time magazine wrote, “The ‘homosexual subculture’ is, without question, shallow and unstable... it deserves no encouragement, no glamorization, no rationalization, no fake status as minority martyrdom, no sophistry about simple differences in taste — and, above all, no pretense that it is anything but a pernicious sickness.” * “I can only think that if I had been 20 when that first march took place, I’d have been peering at it anxiously from a distance, a pusillanimous stance I now regret... So I come to these photographs abashed. I admire the people, braver than I, who were out for the first march. I feel such gratitude that these men and women had the wherewithal to declare themselves when doing so was still so acutely dangerous.” Have a wonderful, safe, loud, out and proud Pride, everyone ❤️🌈

It deff is w sin to homosexual. God clearly states man and woman throughout the Bible; Leviticus 20: 12 'If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both of them shall surely be put to death. They have committed perversion. Their blood shall be upon them. 13 'If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them. 14 'If a man marries a woman and her mother, it is wickedness. They shall be burned with fire... and then it goes on saying in verse 22 SHALL BE HOLY
22 'You shall therefore keep all My w statutes and all My judgments, and perform them, that the land where I am bringing you to dwell x may not vomit you out. 23 y 'And you shall not walk in the statutes of the nation which I am casting out before you; for they commit all these things, and ztherefore I abhor them. 24 'But a I have said to you, "You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you to possess, a land flowing with milk and honey." I am the LORD your God, bwho has separated you from the peoples.

@zelkyafam Homosexuals are born homosexual; They did not choose a lifestyle. They have every right to celebrate them selves and no longer should be expected to stay in the shadows by people like you. If gay pride bothers you, don’t go to the parade. But don’t fool yourself either: You are SURROUNDED by gay people. They are doctors, lawyers, accountants, teachers, scientists, and people YOU work with. They are contributing to society and making the world a better place. And they’re NOT interested in a bigot like you.

People forget that it was fight for rights. Those of us who are older watched as people we loved were abused and persecuted. Cheers to those who paved the way and suffered for it. I was blessed to be invited to my friends wedding (not too many people invite their pet sitter) it was a moment I could not have imagined even a few years ago...❤️?????

You have done an incredible part on educating society about the Gay Community. Your career choices speak for themselves " The Normal Heart " and " Boys in the Band". I was lucky enough to see you perform in both.
