New York, San Francisco and Washington D.C. are often spotlighted for their astronomical housing prices. But a new report finds that it’s not just the coasts that are facing an affordability crisis: A full-time worker earning the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour cannot rent an affordable two-bedroom apartment anywhere in the country, where affordable is defined as comprising up to 30% of a renter’s budget.

So true I have a good credit except for my medicals bills because I’m fighting with chronic illness. I was just denied a mortgage for 95,000. Because my medicals bills. What I’m supposed to do? My rental is 1,010 monthly For a mobile home. and every year going up. I can’t afford this type rent. I work in school and my earning yearly is $14,000 and I’m the secretary for the assistant principal, I have a bachelors degree. The government is doing nothing!

Because minimum wage jobs are for entry level workers. Students. You’re not meant to stay there. If you’re still working minimum wage jobs by the time you need a 2 bedroom house that’s on you. My family were immigrants, started with nothing, missed many meals, worked 20 hours a day, climbed the ladder, even without English, and made a life for us all. Everyone has an opportunity get beyond minimum wage. So long as they put in more than minimum effort.

Also I guess a lot of people on this comment section criticizing people for working minimum wage jobs must really dislike Trump. Just considering that's really the only job market he's growing. Also, people with a minimum wage job count as employed so it boosts his joblessness numbers without solving any problems.

Rent/mortgage should only be 30% of your income. So a person making $40K can only afford $1K/month rent or mortgage payment. Affordable and DECENT housing is not available to people with these wages. How do we expect minimum wage to live on LESS????????

Minimum wage was meant for the beginner workers in high school and college. It was never meant for those to live off of. Unfortunately, a lot of people can’t move out of the minimum wage jobs and have to take what that can get but it’s not enough.
