In what will probably go down as one of the news clips of tonight's #DemDebate, Kamala Harris played not peacemaker-in-chief but rebuker-in-chief. Onstage, Harris distinguished herself as a storyteller, conjuring up images as well as arguments in ways the other contenders did not—most notably, when criticizing Joe Biden for his past support of busing, describing “a little girl in California who was part of the second class to integrate her public school.” “That little girl,” she said, “was me.” Tap the link in our bio to read more about the power of the former prosecutor's narrative instinct.

I like Kamala very much. I’ve watched her grow up, in a sense, in the Bay Area community, and while she made some mistakes early on, she has found her place in the Senate. I’m proud to have her as my Senator. I’m on the fence as to her readiness/temperament for the Presidency, however, and I thought her calling out Biden on the bussing issue a stunt. One of my best friends grew up in Berkeley (we’re a decade older than Sen. Harris), and Berkeley was never as difficult a place to be a person of colour than most parts of the USA. My caucasian friend had African-American friends from elementary school thru Berkeley HS, and she told me once that she was so glad she was brought up surrounded by people of every colour. The racism that most felt during those times was not as rampant in Berkeley ... which is not to say it didn’t exist. I just think Sen. Harris played this for political gain, and I expect better from her.

But my dear @kamalaharris, I have a story for you: You know ‘victims’ stand in one place while others in the same situation move forward...and against all odds, too. You refused victimhood as well as millions of other people of all socioeconomic, ethnic and religious groups etc., that endured prejudice, discrimination and racism of all kinds.
My grandparents were able to feel pride that in the tenements of the 1900’s they were able to raise 3 strong and proud children whose offspring have followed by their example. Hate to tell you, despite all the failings there is no place better in the world...no place where where one can knock down the walls and build up! PS: Thank God, we have the lowest price food in the world so people like us who MADE it, can help feed others not so fortunate.

You are giving her more credit than she deserves. She put parents in jail because there kids were truant. What control does a working parent have over a determined teenager? One of them was a parent of a chronically ill child. Yeah there will be no criminal justice reform with her. She was a DA. She is in NO way a progressive. She takes wall street money and corporate money so don't kid your self, she will not be for the people. You gotta dance with them what brung ya. Talk is cheap and that's what her stories are, all talk. Look at her history.

@yeahiwish Agreed. Republicans aren’t the best with facts - but Kamala has a tough time with facts as well. As a DA she violated hundreds of defendants’ constitutional rights by failing to disclose potentially exculpatory evidence. A federal judge reprimanded the prosecutorial misconduct, and Kamala’s flagrant violation of the defendants’ basic rights. Kamala was indifferent.

I don't need the government to put food on my table, I am not their serf. The only thing I need from the government is to keep their hands off my income and quit giving what they do take from me to illegal immigrants and start worrying about our own American citizens who are homeless and living in tent cities here in Los Angeles along with our homeless veterans.

@sillywillienilly Just one? There were so many, that’s easy; our health care system doesn’t focus on prevention, we need to look to America’s past long-term involvement to understand the crisis in South American, racism in the US us a systemic problem not just a problem among select individuals.
