Dear President Putin,

I was deeply upset when I read your recent interview in the Financial Times. I strongly disagree with your view that pursuing policies that embrace multicultural and sexual diversity are obsolete in our societies. I find duplicity in your comment that you want LGBT people to “be happy” and that “we have no problem in that”. Yet Russian distributors chose to heavily censor my film “Rocketman” by removing all references to my finding true happiness through my 25 year relationship with David and the raising of my two beautiful sons. This feels like hypocrisy to me.
I am proud to live in a part of the world where our governments have evolved to recognise the universal human right to love whoever we want. And I’m truly grateful for the advancement in government policies that have allowed and legally supported my marriage to David. This has brought us both tremendous comfort and happiness.

Каждый в праве жить так, как ему хочется, при этом не мешать другим. Более того считаю, что возможность узаконивать такие отношения в правовом поле необходимо. Но, я против пропаганды, парадов и пр, меня устраивает, что в моей стране это запрещено. Я же не устраиваю парады, каким-то образом демонстрируя свои сексуальные предпочтения? Я хочу чтобы мои дети выросли и сами поняли, кто они и я их приму любыми, но не хочу чтобы видя пропаганду в детстве, они начали думать: а может я гей? Только потому, что это постоянно демонстрируют и навязывают. Но, в нашей стране такой активной пропаганды нет. Для меня все происходящее в мире по отношению к ЛГБТ- это прекрасный пример работы окна Овертона. У меня достаточное количество приятелей нетрадиционной ориентации, они прекрасные люди, живут семьями, работают, отдыхают и никто из них не страдает от того, что ему не дают в труселях пройти по Тверской или что они не могут сосаться в метро. Я хоть и достаточно обычный человек, но тоже не стала бы проявлять в метро такого рода ласки. Интимное, потому и интимное. Может это просто в силу возраста.

Not only in cinema, but also in open access on the Internet, as Russia restricts this possibility. And you are quite right in your statement about hypocrisy and duplicity. The authorities say that they are not against LGBT communities and that we have a country of democracy, but in the meantime prohibit any such propaganda and freedom of choice. You were fortunate to have the love and naturing of your mother and she probably breastfeed you but you have denied your children from having the most natural thing that children require you have thought only about your needs and your husbands needs but not about the childrens rights. You and any one who uses surrogacy is taking away childrens rights to be born and raised naturally.
