Getting dirty to help rebuild homes in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans with the fine folks at @habitatnola @habitatforhumanity and @bluegreenvacations.

Hurricane Katrina was nearly 15 years ago, and this beautiful city is still continuing their efforts to restore housing and communities for those who were displaced. The sheer amount of kindness, heart, and empathy, that are still present in the face of such trials, speaks volumes for what a community can do for each other when we come together.

jasonleelewis I don’t like to block people or quickly delete because I think conversation should exist. BUT I must say that your truth is subjective and narrow. The truth I see is that the disadvantage for people to see better opportunities for themselves and participate in their own well-being is often and, I think in the case of you reference, because they are born into poverty. Poverty is a system that doesn’t show you what many people who are advantaged get to learn and take for granted. Imagine for a moment you grew up in an area where no amount of effort ever showed a result… Would you try? The whole point of doing charity is to help someone who is disadvantaged and hopefully, more than the immediate relief provided, make a fundamental shift in how they think and feel about themselves. It’s hard to see the mountaintops when you are down in a hole.
