Is your brain really a computer, or is it a quantum orchestra tuned to the universe?
Stuart Hameroff’s research involves a theory of consciousness developed over the past 20 years with eminent British physicist Sir Roger Penrose. Called ‘orchestrated objective reduction’ (‘Orch OR’), it suggests consciousness arises from quantum vibrations in protein polymers called microtubules inside the brain’s neurons, vibrations which interfere, ‘collapse’ and resonate across scale, control neuronal firings, generate consciousness, and connect ultimately to ‘deeper order’ ripples in spacetime geometry. Consciousness is more like music than computation. • Stuart Hameroff • November 2015 • in Articles • Leave a comment
What is consciousness?
How does the brain, a lump of pinkish-gray meat, produce feelings, emotions, understanding and awareness (a question termed the ‘hard problem’ by philosopher David Chalmers)? The mystery has been pondered since ancient times, and is currently approached from many disciplines, e.g. neuroscience, medicine, philosophy, psychology, physics, biology, cosmology, the arts, meditative and spiritual traditions, etc. All these have something to say, but from different directions, like the proverbial blind men describing an elephant. Moreover consciousness cannot be directly measured, observed nor verified, a problem in my field of anesthesiology where we want our patients to be decidedly unconscious. How do we even study consciousness scientifically?
In 1994 I co-organized the first international, interdisciplinary conference ‘Toward a Science of Consciousness‘ at the University of Arizona in Tucson, bringing together all approaches under one umbrella, or more aptly perhaps, one circus tent. After some confusion, the interdisciplinary concept took hold, thanks largely to a famous talk the opening morning by David Chalmers.
The audience was restless after two boring lectures when Dave took the stage. With waist-length hair, strutting like Mick Jagger, he explained that brain functions including memory, learning, language and behavior were difficult, but still relatively easy compared to the really ‘hard problem’ of subjective experience,

@mayb.ewind in my opinion, if you have to read a book written by someone I’ve never heard of in orders to understand about Jesus... that’s not very interesting, if he is so important, I guess he could’ve done something more interesting. I have read the bible and I have been in a religious school all my life and there is people that has helped much more that him to the much more people and they are not recognised, this guy Jesus hasn’t done anything at all that I would base my believes etc on his teachings. And put lots of people that believe in other religions etc against all those believes, I will always prefer a different way, more like science, with facts, questioning everything and always learning and not based on someone we don’t know much about and that the things we “know” or they say someone else says they know, are not very impressive at all. Thanks and have a nice day.

@ohara70 Hey:) I just read your question. You are right. The Bible does not prescribe that only men are allowed to preach the gospel. This is what the Catholic Church does as an institution. People, not God. You have to be aware of this. All the rules and sacraments in the Church are created by men. Not by God. If people were reading the Bible, they would know. Jesus also enabled women to be His disciples. And he loves us women as much as he loves men. Women are always referred to as weak people but who was it who first saw Jesus after the Resurrection? It was the women! Jesus uses women as the first witnesses of His Resurrection. If you don't feel free in the church, that's not good. I don't know which country you're from. But if you want to, look around for a free evangelical church. You will see that women also preach there

Wonderfully said Poe. The Holy Bible is a see that have to grow and it also have to be spear worldwide. Do said more of what you wrote for those who believe in the Holy Bible got to be people of honesty and willing to accept that they also are the real Bible to learn from. Jesus told his people that temple is your body and he also promise Peter that your are my rock and upon you I will build my church's. To see the beautiful side of life you need to drow close enough to God Heaven. In this manor, we share love to show that the scriptures to come true. Multiple sources because it is what he told us to have children

"C'est que vous faites aux plus petites de mes frères (et sœurs) c'est a moi que vous le faites." "That which you do onto the least of these children, the same you doeth onto me." Matthew 25:40. Please tell Mr. Putin that Syrian civilians are not a target. Russia has killed or displaced thousands of peaceful Syrian civilians this year in a brutal Nazi-like offensive. Countless women and children have been hurt. Civilians are not a target. #TellPutin #NotATarget #CiviliansAreNotaTarget #Refugees #Syria #Idlib #SaveSyria #SaveSyrianChildren #StopRussianAggression #سوريا #ادلب #الحب ???

@antidiesel btw: Jesus is not a religion :) All religions are made by human. Religions are the search for God that have gone wrong in the fog. They have not found God. The God of the Bible is a hidden God. He is only visible through Jesus. Jesus says: "When you see me, you see the Father." All the people who are following the religions have got lost in the fog. They cannot comprehend who God really is. It requires Jesus and His grace. You will understand better if you read the bible. But to become interested in this matter the litte book of W. Busch is a good start
