The #Moon is seen passing in front of the #Sun during a total solar eclipse on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, directly over the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory located in the foothills of the Andes, 7,241 feet (2200 meters) above sea level in the Coquimbo Region of northern Chile. A partial solar eclipse was visible across Ecuador, Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay.
As the Moon moves in front of the Sun, the single bright spot left — in combination with the atmosphere of the Sun still visible around the Moon — looks like a giant diamond ring. Venus is visible below and left of the total solar eclipse.
