This girl is beautiful but she is not right for the role of Ariel. It is so sad that Disney (and Hollywood in general) believe that diversity means getting rid of everything that is white. Diversity means including everyone including white. The little mermaid is a European/Danish tale. It is a tale that is so beloved that there is actually statue of the little mermaid in Denmark. How dare Disney take this beloved tale and make it into something it is not. How sad that they feel they need to take away from people who are of Danish or European decent to appease the African American community. Also how sad that they don't believe a story about an African American girl with her own identity and her own story would sell. Some people here are complaining about most of the Disney Princess being white. Well, Walt Disney himself was white. I don't think there was any prejudice on his part. I believe he was just telling stories that he grew up hearing. Cinderella comes from a French story with a similar story in Russian - both countries are white. Snow White and Rapunzel are both German folklores. Belle (Beauty and the Beast) and Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) are French tales. Elsa and Anna are from Norway. Ariel (The Little Mermaid) is a Danish folklore. These characters/princesses are white because their stories come from European/white countries. I don't think the answer is taking away from the original stories and folklores. They do mean something to the people who are the actual nationalities of where these stories come from. Imagine the outrage if you took an African folklore/story and cast all white people in it. And what does this really say to African American girls? That you have to play a white character to be accepted? Maybe the answer is not rewriting these classic tales and princesses as black or other minorities but rather create princesses that come from their folklores and stories and represent who they really are. I wish the best for Ms. Bailey but I will not be seeing this movie and I'm extremely disappointed in Disney. Disney should recast this movie. This was a very bad decision and it will backfire on you.

Super disappointed Disney! Why do this? Why change the original? People/ fans of these movies expect them to be exactly like the animated versions they grew up with! I grew up with the little Mermaid being a white,16year old red head with blue eyes! No I'm not racist before anyone gets offended. It was a favourite for me as a little girl I'd watch it over and over and I was really looking forward to it! Ariel is even a favourite of my little girl's now years later, she can point out the little white red headed girl from all the princess'. Even all Disney merchandise portrays Ariel as this! Halle is beautiful and I'm sure super talented perfect as Tiana the Frog Princess but she is NOT Ariel! Won't be seeing this movie....I will be sticking to the animated version! Such a shame. ???♀️

I love when people of color are given the opportunity to play amazing roles, but please not his one. The little mermaid is very important for Denmark, we even have a statue about her. It is our tale . And now, some people are already trying to tell others, that Ariel is a carribean mermaid then. This disrespects our culture, Ariel is a danish mermaid. This tale is part of our culture and Hollywood is using it and they don’t care about our country. How would you all feel if Tiana would be played by a white girl? Or Mulan?
You are saying that they are different, and these princesses’ nationality matters, but Ariel’s doesn’t. Why do you want to tell me that my nationality doesn’t matter? Ariel’s nationality matter.

@andrewalleyne because Ariel was an iconic natural redhead . If a white redhead plays Tiana in a live action film what do you think the results will be ? The same people who are saying they are excited for this will be saying that Disney is racist . Tiana was a black strong princess and should be played by an equally strong black woman. Ariel was pale with red hair . She should be played by someone like that . People who pull the race card in this would just as easily pull it if Tiana was played by a white woman. If you disagree with your lying to yourself .

I am obsessed too much with a race problem?
Since I become a photograph taken on a spot, it should be faithful to the original.
It is assumed that it is a black in the cast who is faithful to the original to of white, a cuttlefish and I give priority to it over a splendid work whether you do it and should think.
In this, make a fan and the original fan from old days contempt; is same as.
