On July 8, 1953, almost 66 years ago, the Aquabelles demonstrated a human pinwheel formation at the Aquashow in Flushing Meadow Park. The aquatic show ran for 12 seasons, and that year entertained half a million people. We dug in the New York Times photography archives to find images of swimsuits from 1930s onward. Where's the big girls? Ya know, big girls were said to be more attractive and healthier and able to keep their men satisfied. Was that 1900s? I don't remember but then it all became about the super skinny girls. I'm glad we can be whatever size we want and nobody truly cares because they're too busy looking at the phone to notice?
