"You Have The Right To Remain Fat" by Virgie Tovar ( @virgietovar )

Wheeeeeeewwwww. This is a tiny book but it packs such a huge punch. Every sentence is a gem and every page a manifesto that breaks down fatphobia and other intersecting forms of oppression with precision. I frequently found myself nodding my head (perhaps too aggressively) as I read along, and excitedly sharing excerpts with my friends. This will definitely be one of my go-to books to recommend for people interested in understanding anti-fatness and how it is a necessary part of social justice. Just read a few of the pages and you can see why for yourself. I think it’s also an important read for people that are interested in body positivity whose bodies may not be the *most* marginalized. As with any other movement for social justice, those of us with more privilege need to be intentional with our practice of allyship. Learning about how we have privilege, even when we are working through our own struggles with body image, is essential to making sure that the most marginalized are not left behind. As this has been the case with many social justice movements over the course of history. ❤️

You do realize that most radical feminists hate you for just being a dude! Here is the secret guys, just be a decent human being that’s it! Feminists a lot are nut jobs that 95% of women don’t agree with especially the radical ones. I believe both genders should be treated equal, that women have the same intelligence as a man on average, women may not be as strong physically and that is just science it’s not that big of a deal but in a lot of studies women have a higher pain tolerance. The wage gap isn’t real I truly wish a study was done showing men and women in the work place factoring in all areas instead of just a broad deal. It’s cool that you believe in treating women right and that is great but you are going to the deep end my friend and whether you do it because you truly believe it or your just boarding the train to get more acting gigs so you align your beliefs with the media to look the most “woke”. But a lot of feminists hate men and want women to be put ahead of men and not be equal. Anyway saw somethings that you said and wasn’t really sure whether you actually believe this crap or just using it as away to go with the main stream media. Just be a decent human being and treat people as you want to be treated, that is just common sense which isn’t common anymore but I digress. You don’t have to be a feminist to be a decent person

Thank you!! I'll order that book right away! Being a big girl I've met so many prejudices. Well, when they tried to do an ekg whilst riding a training bike they were annoyed because it took too long for me to get out of breath. My condition was to good in their eyes. And my heart and lungs are perfect. I've met doctors who claimed my chronic pain was pain in my fat cells??? Turns out I have a genetic disorder that causes what? Chronic pain!! So hey, I'm strong (like strong strong) and I've worked out my whole life. But I'm still a big girl. And I'm beautiful. And I have the best friends. And a man who loves me. And a family that stopped fat shaming a long time ago. Because you don't need to look a certain way to be great. You just are. ??

Christ alive this is sublimely ridiculous. We’ve gone through the looking glass when it comes to obesity. While I appreciate the message to spread love and support to people, it is so woefully misjudged and dangerous to suggest the being obese is in any way healthy. Here in the UK we have such a staggering problem with obesity, it is crushing our national health service. Messages like this lead to people stop seeking the help they need. And instead of focusing on ways to make our society more healthy and to stop multinational conglomerates within the food industry stuffing our societies faces with cheap foods filled with salt sugar and laced with additives - we have spend our time challenging this utter drivel.

I disagree with some of this. Not wanting to be fat isn't inherently bad, because there are many health risks associated with being fat, such as heart problems. Dieting to either get to or stay at a healthy weight isn't a bad thing. People shouldn't be discouraged to diet or lose weight if they want to avoid many health problems that can cause an early death. Saying that dieting and trying to lose weight is fat phobic is harmful to those trying to trying to be healthier and to those trying to lose weight because it shames them into thinking that losing weight is inherently bad and it can prevent people from trying to attain a healthier lifestlye

I need to buy this. A few months ago, I met a dietician. I cried saying how I've been fat for most of my life, tried every diet under the sun, workout 4 days a week. She asked if I had health problems, she asked if I had healthy relationships/support, then she gave me permission to stop dieting. She encouraged me to eat more healthy carbs and learn to eat mindfully. She told me that I seem to have a wonderful life and I should let myself enjoy it instead of beating myself up for something I can't change.

You know what? I'm all about body positivity... HOWEVER a person's body holding more weight than their structure can carry is a HEALTH ISSUE not a self image or vanity issue. Listen, I'm 190lbs and I KNOW without even touching a scale when I've gained even one pound because of the way my body FEELS. Being heavy is hell on your knees, back, posture, breathing, it has nothing to do with being fat phobic there are serious health issues. I say this as a fat person!
