Yesterday, @hrhthedukeofyork Patron of the Kohima Educational Trust attended the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Kohima Service at York Minster. HRH visited Kohima, Nagaland, during his visit to India as part of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012. #Kohima75
Inspired by what he saw in 2012, later that year The Duke invited Kohima Veterans to Buckingham Palace (📷 five) and accepted the invitation to become Patron of the Kohima Educational Trust, which raises funds to improve lives in the area around Kohima in order to repay the debt of gratitude to the local population (Naga’s) for their help during the battle.
The battle is known as a turning point in WW2 when Japan – attempting to invade India across the Naga Hills – was defeated.
Yesterday, The Duke laid a wreath at the memorial and seven Veterans of the Battle of Kohima were also able to attend to lay wreaths.
