For Zeynep, founder of @galen_leather, designer and innovator, loving mother and wife to her beautiful family, a pure embodiment of grace and strength, and someone who held a special place in my heart, and not just my heart, but my family’s too. She impacted my life with her warmth and friendship, her generosity and support, and her radiant spirit, which held so much strength in the face of unfair odds for the sake of those around her, for her family. She was and will always be a treasure.

My home is filled with remnants of her legacy, her vision, her toil, the very works of her hands. There are little antique trinkets strewn along my creative space from her market findings in Istanbul. All of it has traveled with me and weathered different seasons, and has become part of the fabric of my own journey itself. All of it was a connection to this beautiful soul, my kind and thoughtful friend.

I made this video snippet for her one morning with the infamous #WritingBox that she designed. I wanted to bring a smile to her heart. I remember conversations we had back and forth about the little details in its making like which kind of clasp to use. I felt honored to be able to see the process of her innovative ideas come to their complete fruition.

There is so much more felt than can be expressed in a mere post. There has been too much death and loss in a year’s time from my dad, others and now my friend. If anything, it has taught me to cherish every moment with those we love, to protect what is sacred, to tend to our own hearts with the same courtesy too. To value each new dawn that we’re gifted.

In closing, I included photos of treasures from @galen_leather over the years, and my favorite photo of Zeynep with her son who is the same age as my own. My heart and prayers are with him and her family.
