For years I’ve wanted to meet and learn from the heroes at @pawsark2000. It was surreal and overwhelming to watch how they care for the elephants and humanely clicker train them so they can receive vet care. It sucks to hear, but I learned more about the aftermath of circuses, cub petting, and riding elephants. If you want to help, follow them, donate if you can and gently educate your pals. Don’t support sanctuaries who have cubs - that means there is breeding. Tag your friends who love animals 🐘

papa_indica I went over and gave them a follow. I read a bunch of posts while I was there and I was quite moved by what they do and the lives some of these animals have lived, not to mention the practices that take place in some of these breeding factories. I'm sure conditions are much worse in some of those places for these animals than they let on even. Any place like that where they have no regard for the well being of the animals in their care is certainly not going out of their way to do...well, much of anything for them beyond keeping them alive for their own purposes.

gingindaw I absolutely love these creatures. I no longer go to circuses or zoos, nor support any business that “shows” them for profit. There is a wonderful elephant rescue sanctuary in Howenwald, Tennessee, not too far from Nashville. @theelephantsanctuary The elephants are free to come and go as they please and are never on display for humans. Some have been retired and rescued from circuses. It is such a wonderful sanctuary, as this one you’ve visited. Thank-you for sharing with us @whitneycummings ?

justgarv23 There is a real need and want for interaction with endangered animals. Blows my mind why we can't treat the animals that are in captivity with this kind of respect. Trained humanely we could still interact with animals to help raise awareness. Not saying we should ride them but having an elephant grace you with their presence and possibly touch you physically is a game changer. Can still take a selfie with an animal that isn't chained to the ground or abused.
