An incredible achievement 👏
.
5️⃣0️⃣ years on from his fourth #Wimbledon singles title & second calendar-year Grand Slam, Rod Laver is celebrated in the Royal Box 🚀
.
Will we ever see another calendar-year Grand Slam again? 👇

Well, in that time was "easy" because R.Laver was far the best high level player, but Today are three monsters ??? fighting for each GrandS title (not counting other great players). For example, Federer could have done this in 2004/2006/2007, but as usual had issues in RGarros: in 2004 was defeated by the great G.Kuerten on 3rd round, and in 2006 and 2007 was defeated in both Finals by the king of the clay, Nadal (btw: Roger also won the ATP Finals in 2004/06/07 too?). Nadal had only one chance in 2010, but gave up on QF of AusOpen after loosing 2 sets to AMurray. Djoko also lost two chances because of RGarros: in 2011 was defeated by Federer at the SF, and in 2015 was defeated by Wawrinka at the Final. So, will be easy to Nadal/Djoko accomplish that when Federer will retire, and wide better to Djoko when Nadal will retire too.?

He did play 3 out of four majors on grass, now just imagine if Roger had that or Rafa on clay. It was a monumental achievement but guys today don’t get a chance to play mostly on one surface.

Very few "Living Legends" and just as soon as a male tennis player wins a GS and then a 2nd one, Rod becomes less rarified.... good luck with that I say!

In 2004, 2006 and 2007, Roger had potential to do so. Guga Kuerten in 04 and Rafa in 06 and 07, blocked him in RG. The other 3 he took those years.

I’m sure we will because the surfaces play a lot more similarly now. Like, I’ve read the USOpen is faster than the grass at this year’s Wimbledon.

@eleganceinblood sto cercando di capire il collegamento tra Rod Laver e Facchinetti nella seconda foto ??
