sam1414 As a teacher, I feel like every parent needs to read that book. I teach high school ESL and on parent-teacher nights, there is a very noticeable difference between the immigrant parents and the US born parents. I’ve dealt with both and the immigrant parents always come in with a respectful and constructive attitude. They ask how they can support their children at home, how their children can work on their weaknesses and become better with the material. It’s all about actually having their children work hard and learn. One parent teacher night, a mother walked in all wild eyed before smiling and relaxing. She said, “Oh, I’m sorry! I have the wrong room, where’s 128?” I pointed down the hall and proceeded to hear her screaming at the teacher for failing her son. I know her son. He has a substance abuse issue she ignores because her football player son “would never”. Meanwhile, I would see him in the transition between classes yelling at his math teacher, calling her “stupid” and a bunch of other less savory words because she wouldn’t give him an A+ for just trying.y colleagues who seem to have a fear of interacting with their immigrant students tell me how much harder my job must be. Honestly, I would rather deal with culture clash and translators than an entitled parent any day of the week.

erinzruddy Yes!! Love this book and @teacherlahey. I’ve interviewed her before and she’s fabulous. Her stuff on not obsessively checking our kids’ homework (or driving forgotten homework up to the school) has informed so much of my parenting in the past couple of years. And made things easier on me ? I now tell teachers at meet the teacher night that I’m not going to be helicoptering the homework. Teachers like to see mistakes anyway so they know what kids are learning (or not). GREAT read for all of us!

kassidye425 Ugh, one of my biggest struggles. My son is 18 months old and all I want to do is see that smile on his face. I’ll do everything within my power to make him happy. But, I’m coming to realize that me saying no is not the end of the world. A few tears from him will not be a lasting memory. A little discipline now will go a long way towards him becoming an independent, confident adult.

maggiemac94 I envy the time you have to read what looks like a fantastic book. Meanwhile, I’m in my house being held hostage by Veronica Mars. ?. Why, why did you have to go and make such a completely addictive show?!?! Ugh. Enjoy your book, I will save the title for the future, when I am free. Totally support the idea of letting your kids fail. They learn volumes from this practice.?

katiepumpkin31 Y’all are failing because you had to open your mouths about vaccines. Not everyone chooses to do them for many different reasons. I know you had to take a huge loss. ?? That’s what happens when you’re insensitive to other people’s lives. You care about pro choice but believe vaccines should be forced. Totally makes sense. ??‍♀️?

asherunlimited Ahhhhhh I need to read this ❤️ I struggle with the overwhelming desire to be absurdly overprotective of my toddler because of his size (he has a rare form of dwarfism) - and I've gotta figure out how to mom-up and let him get out there and fail and pick himself back up ????
