Words are so powerful . We all have a responsibility to choose them with care . Some ( not all ) of the media outlets play a part in minimising what shouldn’t be made smaller , sensationalising what is serious and in this case I can only assume the objective was to try and soften the harsh truth . Underage women = Girls / children . I know first hand what it’s like to be a 14 year old girl and be sexualized and hit on by 40 + year old men. There is nothing ok about it . Text book example of abuse of power . Respect to the many survivors who have been trying to stop Jeffrey Epstein for years . I hope they sleep well tonight knowing that speaking their truth was not in vain . #SupportSurvivors

Amanda, this is such a powerful post. I have always been a huge advocate of "words matter". As an incest survivor I have always been intrigued as to why the wording around incest is so "dumbed down" from the reality of the words, rape, sexual assault, child abuse etc. It's as though society has somehow made a silent agreement that because incest is a familia abuse that it does not merit the same validation of the terror and violence as a rape outside of the family. Perhaps society cannot stomach those words or acts that a father, uncle, brother, sister, mother etc. commits against their child. But I do believe in order to eradicate sexual assault, abuse, rape we have to start using language that reflects the horror of the crime. I am embarrassed to admit that I did not understand that my fathers relationship with me was in fact a crime and that his acts were criminal until I moved back home to Canada at age 55. As painful as those words are to say and to try to wrap your brain around, for me true healing began when those words were spoken. It put my years of excruciating pain into a context that I could comprehend and eventually let go of so many deep seated wounds. So in closing I would like to offer up a suggestion. I believe that it is imperative that we publish a dictionary of sorts that represents the accurate words associated with sex crimes. For example the word criminal has a more powerful connotation than the word predator. Anyway I would be happy to take a stab at beginning a list of terms, which I know would be a living document that people around the world could add to, however I believe that we need an inuencer like you to bring it to the forefront. We are the change that needs to happen. Thank you for considering my input. Kind regards, Jennifer

@bopcha my only point, and still my point, is that the term isn’t used in mainstream media. As a sub point even if it was used then one need to be essentially retarded to not make the link between underage women and girls. Your stock went down when you openly admitted you didn’t even know it was in the media or not, yet defending the “cause” regardless!! Anyway goodnight from japan !!

@moomoopin if a 20 or 30 year old hits on a 14 year old child it's innapropriate and not okay. But when a 40 year old man -LITERALLY old enough to have fathered the 14 year old child- hits on them .. it's beyond gross and way more deeply repulsive. So YEAH if u are old enough to have fathered the person who you are hitting on.. you're a disgusting immoral piece of shit.

He is a pedophile. Who preyed on young girls. And I don’t care what political party they are from, anyone who has the stink of this on them needs to go down. My personal opinion is that this goes way farther than is being reported. To many girls for even one oversexed middle aged pedophile.

I completely agree & would like to add the term “girl” as offensive when referring to women, especially sex workers. I find this unconsciously infantilizing. This common vernacular is culturally accepted by both men & women. As perspective, when do we refer to men over 21 as boys?

@texcellent read what you wrote there for a second you're saying that I'm angry because the coverage of these things is harmful. The post is about how the coverage of these things is harmful. Do I have to explain a further to you? Or has the idiocy of what you said registered?
