UT-Austin will provide free tuition to undergrad students with family incomes below $65,000 starting in 2020!
Next move is yours @tamu!! This on the heels of @riceuniversity covering tuition for middle income grad students, @utaustintx is going to do some thrilling things in expanding educational opportunities to all who deserve it while we as a country figure out all of this insanity surrounding student debt.
Just for reference according to the U.S. Census Bureau the median household income in the state of Texas in 2017 was just over $59,000.

@tamu actually helped pave the way, news reports yesterday said UT was following in A&M’s footsteps. “A&M has for years had a financial aid program that covers tuition costs for students whose families have an adjusted gross income of $60,000 or less. Last year, 6,726 students benefited from it, according to a statement from the system, and its board set aside $30 million in 2018 to offer one-time grants to students coming from families that earn between $40,000 and $100,000 a year.”

UT Tyler took away 65 full scholarships from Nepalese students. The Chronicle of Education covered it in detail last year. I hope the UT system becomes accountable for all high achieving low income students.
