Fun fact: Although Juxtapoz is today known as a bible for contemporary art, the 25-year-old magazine's origins—like Playboy's—lie in erotica. Both publications also have longstanding relationships with politics and, of course, the visual arts—sometimes even in tandem (See above for a few of the art mag’s most poignant political covers). For these reasons and more, we tapped Jux’s editor-in-chief Evan Pricco to guest-edit a special art-as-activism edition of The Playboy Symposium for Playboy’s Spring 2019 issue. faceford39 Glad to see the collaboration of art and Playboy. I took a brief glance at Juxtapoz and it seemed interesting. I’ll look more later. I just remember the halcyon days of the seventies when Playboy epitomized the best in art and literature. I wonder what eroded that. Was it the attacks from the right, both religious fundamentalists and feminist. Was it your open forum to both your fans and detractors? Or was it the expediency of political correctness, the famous avoiding the semblance of some impropriety? I wonder who I would be, a boy raised on a farm in a small town, without the influence of Mr. Hugh Hefner? I am glad Playboy helped me be the man I am. I can only imagine being lesser without it. From the first issue my mom bought me with the dollar I got for my birthday in 1972 to now, thank you!
