Who’s ready for some soccer history? 👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽 20 years ago today, July 10, 1999, Mia Hamm helped the U.S. women’s soccer team to win the World Cup. ⚽️ Hamm wore this jersey three years earlier at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Hamm won two FIFA World Cup Championships🏆🏆 and three Olympic medals🥇🥇🥈. Her success helped popularize women’s soccer in the United States, encouraging many young girls to take up the sport. 🏃🏽‍♀️ But the popularity of women’s soccer in the U.S. began long before Mia Hamm. A key episode in that story is the passage of Title IX in the 1970s. In an attempt to create an equal amount of opportunities for male and female students, many schools invested in soccer teams.
