He didn’t have any lines in this short film, and he was filming it while in the middle of filming Lincoln with Spielberg and Day-Lewis. I asked why he’d taken such a small role in this short while working on such huge projects. He said he read it, loved it, wanted to be a part of telling this story, and that the man who’s asleep the whole time was the only part he was right for. “I’m doing it because I want to be a part of telling this story...” I’ve never forgotten that. Such a simple, inspiring explanation of why we do what we do.
