Dear Diary, (🤣)
One of the hardest things in life for me is to accept people as they are and not who I imagine them to be, who they potentially could be, or who I want them to be.
It’s an every day effort to reconcile this singular idea of acceptance with action. It’s hard. And I fail. A lot.
After all, we have only our own filters from which we see things based on our life experiences. But, as I grow older and the consequences of rigid thinking reoccur, I am forced to do the work.
I can’t think of a better human to exemplify the message of love, tolerance, acceptance, kindness, and forgiveness than Fred Rogers. He’s just #goals.

thanatos63 Those I love I do so without expectation, without a need to change them. I love them 100% for who they are.... All the great, not so great, irritating as fuck, and everything else about them. If I hadn't accepted that before I feel in love with them, then they wouldn't be in my life. If there's something that THEY want to change, then I'll be supportive, but never pushy. The greatest way I've ever helped any partner change was too let them be free to find who they really are and what they want to be. Sometimes that directed them away from me but, so long as that's their peace and happiness in life, I can accept that (even if I'm not happy about it on my end).

cybrryno @ladyfatale01@karazma not all are able to be loved. The one thing that this message is missing is self love. If we don't apply these principles to ourselves first we cannot expect to understand when this type of love is given. Unconditional love may be the most difficult type of love to give AND receive. It is against our programming to love without question or accept that no one is perfect and all deserve love.. It does not mean we don't deserve love. It means that to understand love from others we first need to love ourselves the same way.

ladyfatale01 I think it's also important to note, love isn't always enough. Coming to that conclusion is one of the worst types of pain because, as women, we are trained to think if we love someone enough that love will somehow fix everything. If the relationship fails, then somehow it's our fault because maybe we didn't love the person "enough". The perception of what love is can be very sexist and hypocritical.

chifan78 We all struggle at seeing who people actually are, how we see ourselves and who we actually are. We will all fail at times. But as we learn we grow and hopefully see everyone through open and accepting eyes and hearts. Fred Rogers is the perfect example.

joyrightnow08 Unconditional acceptance isn’t the hardest thing in life. The hardest thing in life is when you find someone who accepts you with all of your BS and then you mess that good thing up because you can’t go beyond your filters. Happens all the time.
