giltandgesso This is Hillgate Village just behind Notting Hill, I gather it has been this colourful tapestry with each cottage featuring a different pastel colour since a national advertisement campaign for paint company offered to paint each house to promote its range. I was told this in the early 1990’s when I was an estate agent in Notting Hill and apparently the tradition had been maintained and continues now. Rumour has it the paint company continued the tradition to pay for redecoration for many years after, the original advert may have been as long ago as the 1970’s. Does anyone else know of this story? M
