This is what the fastest family in the world looks like.
Meet Tirunesh, Genzebe, Anna, and Melat — the Dibaba sisters. As a family, the Dibabas have four Olympic gold medals, two silver, three bronze and fifteen world championships. Yes, you read that right.

People like to debate or whether to refer these women as #Oromo or #Ethiopian. However, just because your black does it make you any less American. Just because your Muslim does it make you any less American. No. People identify with who they are because of where they came from and their beliefs. Ethiopia is the country in which we and they are from. Oromo is who we are and who we identify with. As a country we need to stop building up our differences and start celebrating each other’s successes. When Oromos shine, don’t hate. If you wanna says we all stand together as one country and become a better country together, then celebrate with us. Open your arms to the amazingness that that can be shared no matter your ethnicity. Be proud of Oromos, be proud of Harariis, be proud of Amarahs, be proud of Somalis. Ethiopia is such a diverse country, as is ALL of Africa. Borders created by colonizers. Don’t be so closed minded to think we are all one identity. We are many identities that make up a country and we should be proud of each one of them and not be hesitant or afraid to let light shine upon them so that maybe light may shine upon us all. So to sum all that up I say #oromogirlmagic ❤️?❤️ #nikewomen

@faayapapaya yes i understand that but u think by doing this would bring about change?????? Their story is shared by many other tribes too so don't you think that its best to fix those mistakes by binding and creating a better place for future generations? We live in a time where someone is from another tribe they no longer qualify and no longer seen as human and are killed or robbed of all their property. Acknowledging a cultural heritiage and using it to create hatred amongst one other are 2 different things.....its up to you and me to create this atmosphere by creating unity in diversity.....and if focused more on the similarities rather than the differences who knows where we would have been am just saying.....when these women are running in those tournaments they arent only representing only the oromo tribe but all tribes of ethiopia and all of them are proud of them just as the oromos are thats what it means to be ethiopian....yes we have a painful past so we should work for that to not happen again.

@theeightfour Hey! So oromo or the Oromo people are actually the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia. These ladies are Ethiopian (nationality) but their ethnicity is Oromo (the country has 80+ different ethnic groups). The reason why many people are commenting “oromo Magic” is Because throughout history people from the Oromo ethnic group were considered as lower, treated as second class citizens and whenever big achievements were made by this group they would not have recognition for it. Their language (oromo) was actually banned for a period of time and suffered countless genocides. So we are here commenting that they are Oromo to make it known that y’all gotta put some respect on these girls names!! Fun fact the first African gold medalist was an Oromo also from Ethiopia.

@bati6seven honestly I don’t understand why it seems like it’s only the oromos who identify with their tribe before their country and of course you guys have every right but oromos aren’t the only ones that have been oppressed during derg and yehadig I just want Ethiopia to be whole again and pushing this Oromo 1st rhetoric is not gonna help us heal in the long run and makes it more divisive cuz I dead ass don’t see the amaharas or the gurages or anyone else basically trying to basically act like their tribe is their nationality

FASTEST in the world. Nothing short of amazing. I don’t know what Oromo means (absolutely willing to learn because I see them as family), but I love this and I love these beautiful sisters. All love from your sisters across the Atlantic. ??❤️
