"Giant barrel jellyfish spotted in Cornwall! 😮 This jellyfish clocks in at 1.5m in length and was spotted during Wild Ocean Week.
.
.
Wild Ocean Week was created by biologist and broadcaster @dalylizzie to raise awareness about the incredible marine life off of UK coasts and to raise money for the Marine Conservation Society.
.
.
Lizzie, alongside underwater cinematographer @sharkman_dan who captured this image, spent 7 days traveling around Britain to showcase its wildlife, encountering seals, minke whales and huge seabird colonies along the way.
.
.
While barrel jellyfish are known for being large in size and are common around UK coasts in the warmer summer months, Lizzie and Dan both said they have never seen one quite this big!”

Although two of the most common types of jellyfish that are mostly seen off the British coast are harmless, and that is because they cannot sting through human skin. The scuba diver should be a lot concern for his safety than having the experience of swimming next to the giant barrel jellyfish that could potentially sting swimmers through broken skin or cause a rash to sensitive skin.

This jellyfish is awesome! I didn't know there were any so big. But 1.5m converts to only 4ft 11in which is shorter than the average adult. So either the person in that photo is a child or the camera angle makes for a tricky illusion.
