Candice T 67 @ Pelican Lake WI. They were suppose to walk on the Moon on my 17th Birthday which was 7/21/69. I was a little sad when they moved it up a day. But greatest moment came while in our cabin at my Great Grandfather’s Resort Sunset View Pelican Lake WI I watch the lift off and landing on the Moon with him. We were sitting watching a small black and white TV in a cabin that was built in 1925. He was 91 that summer and would pass away the following summer at 92. We sat a a big rectangular table. 50 years later I am 66 turning 67 and in the same cabin situation tthat I am sitting

I’m Angela and I was visiting cousins in Staten Island when I watched on TV Neil Armstrong taking his step on the moon. I was 14. The moon had always been a wonder to me because as I would look at it each night, I knew others would be looking too—our nightlight. We heard that the astronauts had taken a rock from the moon during this landing. When the astronauts returned to earth, my grandfather, who came to America from Italy, said that the weather was never the same since they took that rock from the moon—I guess that was the start of climate change to him 😏

I never asked my grandma where she was during the moon landing. I wanted to for over a year now and just two weeks ago I visited her and found her photos from the night of the moon landing. Three polaroids were taken of the TV screen that night. One of the LLM on the moon, One of Armstrong going down the ladder and, one of Armstrong’s first step. It gave me chills to see those photos appear out that shoe box. I never thought my grandparents cared about the moon. Now I have a little piece of our shared love for the moon hanging in my home forever.

Hi I am Julie and 60 years old. In 1969 I was sitting in a classroom governed by the extremely strict Sister Vincent. Everything was attended to by the book as they used to say. Until they sent men to the moon. Carefully, on that day, she wheeled a trolley into the classroom upon which was placed a small television set. No one spoke- I think we were in shock at this complete change of character. Together, with Sister Vincent, in a classroom in southern Australia, my classmates and I watched men walk on the moon. God bless Sister Vincent.

@sunsetmom I did not finish. 50 years later I am 66 turning 67 and in the same cabin sitting at the same table. The most amazing comment from my Great Grandfather Eric Siguard Lindenau was he grew up in Sweden and his family could only afford a push cart. He is so lucky to able to come to America long ago and is now watching men go to the Moon and land and walk on the Moon. I was lucky to have that moment and it happen 50 years ago and I am proud to be his Great Granddaughter sitting in the same cabin on Sunset View in Pelican Lake WI.

Dominic, 26. Whilst I wasnt born, I worked at the savoy. In 1969 after the team returned to earth they were presented with a cocktail, sent to them from the late ex-head bartender Joe Gilmour. He dubbed the cocktail the "Moonwalk", a mix of grand Marnier and champagne. Turns out they were pleased and Neil Amstrong sent a letter of thanks to the Savoy hotel for the gesture. The letter is still on display in the savoy museum.
