In 2008, #DouglasGordon presented a site-specific, text-based installation, “prettymucheverywordwritten,spoken,heard,overheardfrom1989…” (2008) throughout the rotunda, walls, floor, and lobby as part of the exhibition “theanyspacewhatever.” Gordon’s text installations utilize and animate their surrounding architecture and are “completed” through the audience’s interaction with them. This work, which included phrases such as “Nothing will ever be the same,” “I’m closer than you think,” and “There is something you should know,” evoked ambiguity and revealed the artist’s obsession with opposites—fact and fiction, good and evil, and so on—and the ways in which such dichotomies often collapse into one another.

Since opening in 1959, our Frank Lloyd Wright-designed museum has served as inspiration for invention, challenging artists and architects to react to its eccentric, organic design. Follow #Guggenheim60 to discover more artist interventions during our 60th anniversary year!

Interesting write-up (your caption). Why’s say we are evil? ? To me doing the right thing is say for example returning someone’s heirloom ring in tact. Not hurting their items and not just buying a pretty persons game and going for the underdog that gets on the defensive from being worn out and down. Seems that people with any sort of platform misuse it to gain. As my father figure said when I talked to him the other night about how social media had taken a turn over the years. He said it is full of bullying which is true as: It use to be good a place to meet people, not full of bs preying and monitoring, instead it was a place to connect in an upright fashion! ??

“ARE WE EVIL” seems fairly directed at you as a museum considering where so much of the Guggenheim’s donations come from. It’s great to pretend, even for a moment, that our artistic institutions could have this level of self-awareness and moral character

Humans are mostly evil. Look at what we do to each other, animals and the earth. We won’t survive much longer, thankfully.
