So Roy and I were interviewing a pediatrician yesterday she asked “do you think your spinal cord injuries will get in the way of you parenting this child in anyway?”

Roy explained how we’ve adapted the house, crib, changing table, rocking chair, stroller ... etc. and also mentioned how I’ve been doing this wheelchair thing for 18 years now so we’ve been able to adapt to just about everything.

.
Then I added that I had “the great fortune” of living with one of the best humans and best friends I could ever ask for, Patty Prevo, during the birth of her first little girl and “she showed me the way”. .
.
Looking back it was as if God put me in Patty’s life during that time to MAKE ME KNOW, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I can be a great mom too and used Patty to prove it to me.

Trish, I love you friend. I can’t thank you and Tony enough for allowing me to be a part of that transformative life chapter with you. To figure it out together... laugh about all the ridiculous paraplegic nonsense and cry about diaper rash. It was such an adventure. KITCHEN TIME IS OVER!!! Hahah

I gained priceless knowledge through just being immersed in new motherhood with you that it gave me the confidence to be the Mom I am about to be (like maybe this week)... and that’s the true essence of Motherhood- sharing life. .

I’m super emo writing this and just want you to know that you and those girls and all of our experiences are with me in spirit as I become a mom very soon and I’m so grateful to have you in my life. .

sherrilsigns Please tell me you are still shopping for a pediatrician! And these words are precious- it is a wonderful path you were given by getting to live with a Patty while she went through her experiences. And through your own—you will reach so many SCI (and more) to realize the full potential of the joys of family if they choose to become parents. On Saturday I will be attending a memorial for the SCI woman who did that for me and my husband. So excited for you and Roy! For the grandparents, the aunts and uncles —the ripple effect—the love never ends!

mixaussie This is beautifully written. It is amazing how God is in the details of your life and often it happens at times you don’t even realize you will need it. You are going to be an amazing mother. You already have a huge heart, know how to overcome anything put in your path and adapt to whatever may come and make it work. Those are huge things mothers are contantly doing and you have mastered already. I cannot wait for you to meet you little one.
