‘O N I P A ‘ A
Our Kūpuna showed us what it means to stand with aloha, grace, and dignity today. Our Kūpuna showed us what it means to remain steadfast, brave, and strong in our stand for the sacred. Our Kūpuna showed us what it means to speak up for our Kūpuna ‘Āina with the hearts of aloha ‘āina. Each and every one of them bringing the mana of their ancestors into the space reminding us that we come from a long line of resilience and by the grace of our mountain, we are still here. Kū Kia‘I Mauna!

They're removing 5 telescopes to add one telescope. They're also going to be paying for all the agricultural protection , they're also going to be paying the state 300,000 a year in lease that could go to the lack of Youth education for the state. The big island does not have any pediatric inpatient psychiatric facilities( meaning anyone under the age of 18 has to be flown for this, and costs their families around 30k per flight). MORE and more teenagers under the age of 15 are coming back with the Positive urine meth screens (lack of youth education) . I feel like there's some bigger issues right now at hand on this island that need to be addressed and maybe protested first.

Niemöller is perhaps best remembered for the quotation1:
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
Remember it when you hear that government and corporations take over your choice and don’t be quiet !

So, I did my research and this is what I've read. The land belongs to, or is held in trust for, the Hawaiian people. Whoever leases the land, according to Hawaiian law 171, has to pay fair market value rent per year. The UH uses that land and only pays $1/year. However, they're subleasing to these telescope companies and benefiting millions of dollars annually for doing so. Can they sublease legally without government permission? Do they have government permission? Can the government or Hawaiian people leverage the unpaid back and future rent against the telescope removal?

I’m not Hawaiian and sadly have not been able to visit but it breaks my heart how so much of humanity is quick to ruin the Earth’s beauty and sacredness. I’m human, therefore fallible, and there are things I can be more proactive about but for this I send prayers that this mountain remain unmarred by human hands. ♥️??

Never been to Hawaii nor do I know much about the Hawaiian culture. I just want to say at what point do we say we've built too much. At what point do we stop destroying nature and all its beauty building crap. Hawaii already has telescopes as well as we have telescopes in space. It's time to leave something's unchanged.

I'm right behind you!! I dressed two Hawaiians when on The King & I in London in 2000/2002. Then I visited the islands and met Robert Cazimero and saw some of the real Hawaii on Oahu and the Big Island. All power to you for holding your heads high and standing door what you know it right!!! Xxx
